What is in the name

If you follow this brand, you know that they have had their TentBox Lite on the market for a few years already. But they have recently launched a much larger 4-person version built in the same style and it is with the letters XL in the name.

But note that this TentBox Lite XL is more similar to their TentBox Lite 2.0 than to the TentBox Lite, the same fabric and features are in both tents, this is just about the size.

The door & windows

This TentBox Lite XL tent has openings an all four sides. There are three double-layer windows on its three sides, and the door is also with a window and panel. So you can regulate privacy and protection from the elements as it suits you.

The picture below shows the view from inside and you can also see the great feature here, and this is one of its two skylight windows. This opening too is with a zippered mesh and a zippered panel, and the fly above is with solid translucent windows that match the skylight windows.

The materials

This Lite XL tent comes with a dual layer memory foam mattress. The fly creates awnings on the two opposite sides, and for this you have four poles.

Two extra poles are used to raise the fly above the side windows, and this is one detail where this design differs from the TentBox Lite tent. Note that the removable fly is made from a matte black Cordura that according to their statements won’t fade over time.

You have the best quality YKK zippers here. The tent is built from a polycotton fabric and its waterproof rating is impressive 3000 mm. The rating of the fly is 5000 mm. They claim that the fabric offers UV50+ protection. Below you can see one extra detail for storage underneath the floor.

Ventilation

You have seen its windows with mesh, so you can control air circulation in various ways. Skylight windows play here an important role because you can keep them with mesh only, the fly is above to protect you from the rain.

But they have also added four vents on the side walls. They are located above windows, you have two vents on each side. So there is nothing really to object here.

Who is this TentBox Lite XL for

Regarding the capacity, it is officially for 4 users, and the picture below shows what they think about using its floor area. I think it obvious that there is no enough place for such a number of people, this in particular if you use the floor the way they suggest.

But with three people on the width as in the picture, and one sleeping in perpendicular direction, there would be enough place. This is the size that you would expect even in some ground tents for 4 people.

The length of this tent is impressive, this is why it is in my list of very long roof top tents.

But note that the weight capacity is 300 kg, so this is a bit too low for 4 adults. However, this may work for parents and two kids. With some annexes, this tent can be used for family camping.

Regarding seasons and climate, you have a quality fabric used here, and the waterproof rating is enormous. So there is no doubt you will always be protected from the rain.

With such awnings it is not best suited for strong winds, but this is typical for roof top tents in general.

All the windows are closable, so you can have better protection from the cold than in most winter camping tents designed for ground use.
