Roofnest Falcon 2 XL vs Roofnest Falcon Pro

Here you have Roofnest Falcon 2 XL and Roofnest Falcon Pro, two roof top tents from the same brand side by side. So find out what makes them different.

Roofnest Falcon 2 XL and Roofnest Falcon Pro – similarities

There are several important features that these two roof top tents share.

• Both of them are clamshell type, and more precisely these are non-extendable tents.

This means that the inner sleeping area is pre-determined by the size of the hard shell box. If yo are still not clear what this means, it is best to check my text about the iKamper Skycamp 3 Mini which is an expandable or extendable type.

• They are also of the same height, and both have integrated vents on the sides. This is useful in intervals with rain if you are forced to close the windows.

• Both of them also have 3 doors, so this is a real luxury because you can put the included ladder on any side.

• The recommended speed limit of 75 mph holds for both, and they have the same roof capacity. This capacity is about the fact that you can put cross bars on the roof top tent and transport some bulky items.

• They come with LED strips, and you also have a functional storage set with multiple pockets that you can attach underneath the lid. Here you have a transparent media pocket for a tablet to watch videos.

• The same materials are used in both, and they are excellent. This includes a completely aluminum shell, and a high quality polycotton fabric.

I wish to point out the fact that you have cross bars with the Falcon Pro. This is a very useful bonus.

Skylight window & awning

The issue of skylight window is related to the roof design. Here you have the most important structural difference. So the Falcon Pro has an inverted-U shaped supporting loop that is integrated in the structure.

When you raise this inner U bar, you then have all the doors in function. With this you also have the skylight window shown in the picture below. In the picture above you can see the fly which is with a solid window that matches the skylight window.

Now, in the Falcon 2 XL, there is no such feature, but you have a removable awning. It goes around all three sides and it gives some protection to the side doors as well.

So regarding this issue both designs have some pros and cons and I am really not sure about giving advantage to any of them.

Based on all this, here is my rating for these two tents:

SCORE

Falcon 2 XL

2/7

Falcon Pro

5/7

The final score looks far more on the side of the Falcon Pro, and I think this is realistic. Not all differences are really important, but those that matter are on the sides of the Falcon Pro.

Final thoughts

In summary, this Roofnest Falcon 2 XL vs Roofnest Falcon Pro comparison shows that some differences are minor and could be ignored. But the Falcon Pro comes with several features that are more important and they make the difference regarding its functionality and comfort. In my view this is indeed a better roof top tent.
