Roofnest Condor XL vs iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Roof Top Tent

This Roofnest Condor XL vs iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Roof Top Tent comparison is about two excellent and high quality clamshell type shelters, easy to use and reliable.

What this is about

So here you have two hard shell roof top tents that are in the group of extendable clamshell roof top tents. Being hard shell means that when closed they are just a solid box on the roof. You have a mattress included, and there is also a ladder, both of them store for transportation in the box.

They are designed that you can leave your bedding inside the box, so when you need your bed, you open the box quickly and you have all ready.

They have a similar design as you realize from the pictures. So here is the Roofnest Condor XL shown with its three awnings:

Both of them have openings on three sides, this means one door with a window, plus two side mesh windows. Note that these windows are with a zippered mesh and zippered panels. All of them are with awnings.

They also have a rain fly for extra protection. When the fly is not in use, you have an extra skylight window in both shelters.

My comparison

I created this formal comparison table with these two shelters side by side compared regarding some features that I find important. As you see, I give advantage (the sign +) to one or another, and below the table you will see my reasoning for this.

Peak height

Box thickness

SCORE

Roofnest Condor XL

5/8

iKamper Skycamp 3

3/8

As you realize, the formal score does not look good for the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Roof Top Tent. But let’s see some details and you may decide if this matters or not.

Weight: The iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Roof Top Tent weighs 165 lb (75 kg), so it is indeed quite heavy. But the Roofnest Condor XL is close to this with its 160 lb (72.5 kg). The difference is not really important.

Area: In the Roofnest Condor XL overall base dimensions are 93 x 74 inches (236 x 188 cm), that gives 4.4 square meters. Observe its length, this is why I have added it to my list of roof top tents for tall users.

In the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 this is 83 x 77 inches (221 x 196 cm) and you have 4.3 square meters. Negligible again.

Peak height: It its 50 inches (127 cm) in the Roofnest Condor XL as compared to 48 inches (122 cm) in the other shelter, so not a big difference again.

Box thickness: When closed the box of the Roofnest Condor XL is 13 inches (33 cm) high. It is 13.5 inches (34 cm) in the iKamper Skycamp 3.0. You can simply ignore this difference.

Materials: I give advantage to iKamper because of the box material that includes aluminum on the bottom and a double-layered fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) on the roof.

In the Roofnest Condor XL this is the ASA/ABS plastic.

Both have a polycotton fabric used for the walls, and the fly in both tents is a synthetic.

Extra details: There are many details that could be mentioned here regarding the iKamper shelter, you have seen some in the video. You have YKK zippers, the world map, they also offer an accessory insulation tent (cocoon) that can be added inside.

There is much more, it is best to follow the link below to the iKamper site to see it all. The overall quality and attention to details in this shelter are without a match.

But there are extra details to mention for the Roofnest Condor XL tent as well. It comes with an LED included, and they offer an Annex and also an Awning to order and use with the tent.

Warranty: Note that the Roofnest gives 2 years warranty. With the iKamper you have 2+3 years warranty, details can be seen on their site (link below).

Price: This is something you cannot ignore, as usual the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 is more expensive.

Summary

In the conclusion of this Roofnest Condor XL vs iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Roof Top Tent comparison, I would stress again that most of the differences described in the comparison table above are not really essential.

The only three that matter are the price, warranty, and extra details. So this is what you should focus on if you are undecided.

Let me know what you think. If I have missed mentioning something important, I shall update the text. There is a comment box below.
