What is in the name

This is a smaller shelter from the X-Cover series from this brand. It is not clear to me how they decided about such a name and its meaning is far from obvious.

The shelter is relatively small when closed for transportation, see the picture below. It expands to the side when you need it for sleeping. The dimensions when open are shown in the picture on the right.

Obviously, you have enough space for two adults. The inner area is 31.2 ft² (2.9 m²). Observe also that it is very long, so if you are a tall person this is the tent to consider. As usual, the included ladder doubles as support of the side extension.

Hybrid design

They describe it as a hybrid design and the meaning is as follows.

  • There is no the usual fabric cover that you would expect from a soft shell roof top tent.
  • This means there are no zippers to deal with.
  • When folded for transportation, the shelter has a solid top and solid bottom. But the perimeter is a highly waterproof fabric, see the picture below.

  • There is only one buckle and one hook to close or to open.
  • You can keep your bedding inside when the tent is closed. This is a feature that you normally have only in some hard shell roof top tents.
  • The mentioned solid top is with integrated cross bars, and this is something you would expect only with a hard shell roof top tent.

  • This means that you can transport some bulky but not very heavy items on the roof top tent itself.

So these are the most important features to mention related to the hybrid construction. But there is much more in this excellent shelter.

Windows & the door

The tent has openings on all sides. This includes one door and three separate windows. The picture below shows the views from inside.

All these openings are with zippered mesh and zippered panel. This mean you can regulate air circulation as you wish. All of them also have awnings. The sides are with loop poles for support, and above the door and rear window you have support rods. These elements store in a separate pocket inside, just under the door.

But there are also two roof windows, you can see them in the picture below. The fly has solid translucent areas that match these skylight windows, so you can have light inside as you wish. You can also close this when you want.

There are storage pouches on both sides, and all the zippers here are top quality YKK zippers. You cannot have better.

Materials

The floor is made of high-performance honeycomb aluminum panels and the top is a scratch/UV resistant Rocky Black FRP material.

The tent fabric is a durable and breathable, black-out, 300 gsm poly-cotton canvas. There is also a rain fly which is a polyester 75D ripstop with an eco-friendly water-repellent (DWR) coating.

The fabric is thick and when the tent is closed it is very dark inside, so you can sleep longer in the morning.

The mattress is what they describe as a 9-zone, 2.75″ thick, insulated polyfoam, see the picture to realize what they mean by that.

Note that you have a quilted removable and machine washable cover, see how this all looks:

With such materials, this tent is suitable for year round use. All the openings are closable if you feel cold, but you can also ventilate it as much as you want in a warm climate. The mentioned roof windows are protected with the fly so they can be used as large roof vents.
