Here you have my comparison iKamper Skycamp 3 Mini vs iKamper Skycamp 3 2X Roof Top Tent. They share many common features and look similar, but it turns out that one is far superior to another.
Why this comparison
So these are two rooftop tents from the same brand, both formally clamshell type and this means hard shell as well. Both are very easy to use and suitable for year round use. The top picture above shows the Mini on the left and the 2X tent on the right.
Note that the official name includes 3.0 but I find this 0 quite annoying and do not see the point of using it. So sometimes I simply omit it in writing.
Extendable vs non-extendable designs
They are also with the same official capacity of two people. However, they are different sub-types of clamshell tents. The iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini is an extendable design, while the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X is non-extendable.
The consequence of this is that the shell box of the Mini tent is smaller, and the shell box of the 2X tent determines the actual inner area.
Ladder access
Yet another consequence is the position of the ladder. In the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini, the door is at the feet area.
In the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X, the ladder is on the side. So the ladder access is not the same for both users. This may be inconvenient during the night when the nature calls and the user far from the door has to climb over its partner.
The pictures below describe what I mean, here is what you have in the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini, the same access to the door by both users.
Now compare this with the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X, the box is of a very different size and the same holds for the inner sleeping area. But here, one of the users is in a more favorable position closer to the door:
So this is not about how it fits on the car, it is about the position of the door with respect to the sleeping area.

Important differences
Below you can see some important differences expressed in numbers and in pictures, side and front views. Note the distance of the ladder from the car.
I have summarized the most important differences in the comparison table below.
Mattress
Area
Length
Ladder position
Box size
Accessories
Skycamp 3.0 Mini
Skycamp 3.0 2X
As you see, the overall score is on the side of the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini. Let me show why this is so.
Mattress: It is thicker in the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X where you have 2.5 inches (6.4 cm), as compared to 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) in the Mini 3.0.
Area: You have 2.7 square meters in the Mini 3.0 as compared to 2.5 square meters in the 2X tent.
Length: I think this is the most important difference, 210 cm vs 193 cm. The iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X is quite short, so this is not for you if you are a very tall person.
Ladder position: I already discussed this above.
Box size: It is much smaller in the the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini, you have seen the pictures. This may allow you to add some extra stuff next to it on the roof.
Accessories: They have their Annex Plus and also the Awning 3.0 with both of these roof top tents. This is a great addition that adds a lot to comfort in the camp. You simply need such an extra space if you plan to camp with a roof top tent.
