Why this comparison 

Similarities

Both BadAss Rugged Clamshell and iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X roof top tent belong to the same group of hard shell clamshell roof top tents. This implies an exceptional ease of use.

Yet another feature that must be mentioned here is the fact that they are both non-expandable type. The meaning of this is that you have a solid box that determines the size of the actual sleeping area.

So as you can imagine, this means you have quite a long box on the roof. Regarding the width, there are differences discussed below, but they are both with the official 2-person capacity.

I have collected some important features and parameters where these two roof top tents differ a lot, and I have listed them in the comparison table below:

I guess most of the data in the table are self-evident, and the differences are obvious. For some parameters they are big and important, and for some not. For example, weight/area parameter is almost the same. The BadAss is smaller and it is also lighter.

On the other hand, the inner area may not look so different. But the fact is that the BadAss Rugged is too narrow for two people, see its actual dimensions:

As you see, there is only 45 inches (114 cm), this is far from enough for two users.

But see also the box thickness, the BadAss Rugged Clamshell Roof Top Tent is incredibly thin, one of the thinnest on the market.

However, this is why you have an almost useless and thin mattress. In addition to this, you cannot store your bedding inside. Well, you can store everything inside of the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X roof top tent, but this is why it is not really thin.

Based on this, I can now give my “rating” in the following table. As you see, I give + to the tent which I consider better for a particular feature.

Some of these ratings are obvious if you check the first table, but I want to elaborate a bit about a few of them.

Awnings: You have great awnings in the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X, so this feature is beyond comparison. You will see more in this link to my full text.

Ventilation: Actually there are no vents here. But the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X has a large skylight window which is double layer, so you have mesh. This means it can be used as a vent because it is under the fly.

It should be stressed that with the BadAss Rugged you have an option to choose the lid with a window. But you cannot use it for ventilation.

Accessories: iKamper offers various accessories with their tents, and these include the Annex Plus, Anex Plus Inner Tent, and a few more.

Attachments: So this is about possibility to attach cross bars (sold separately) to the BadAss Rugged Clamshell roof top tent, see the picture. You do not have this in the iKamper tent.

Doors: Here, the BadAss Rugged Clamshell is far better, it has three large openings and each of them can be used as a door.

There is only one door on the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 2X, and it is on the side. This means that one of the users must climb over the partner during the night when the nature calls. See how its floor plan looks:
