Hi everybody, and welcome to my site.
I graduated from a department for astrophysics and I am a theoretical physicist by profession, with a PhD in plasma physics theory. My experience in theoretical physics covers decades of work, and in all these years I have also been mountaineering.
I was born in the mountains, and I have been into hiking and mountaineering for as long as I can remember. But my first higher mountain which I climbed solo in 1986 was Triglav (2864 m, 9396 ft) in what is now in the Slovenian Alps.
I run several outdoor sites and I love to write about outdoor equipment, and this holds in particular for off-ground shelters that are so important when you go to the mountains.
So I decided to create this separate site about off-ground tents only. I even moved here all related texts from my other sites, perhaps some of you might have noticed this. This is why it may happen that, when you click a link somewhere, you get redirected to this site.
As you probably know, there are places where it is not convenient or allowed to set up a ground tent, but you can still sleep in the car, or on the car roof if you have a rooftop tent. There are mountain huts on the roads at high passes, and the guardians there will not mind if you ask to sleep on the parking.
I know this from my own experience in particular in the Alps where I frequently go. But you cannot put an ordinary ground tent on such a parking.
Once I was on a pass in the Italian Alps and during the night cows appeared from somewhere. So one of them wanted to scratch her body and used my car for this. The car was shaking badly, and I had to get out and chase the cows away. But they came later again, so I had to move from the place.
Yeah, this was not such a great experience, but it was still easier than moving away with a ground tent. Anyhow, you might want to bookmark this site and use as a reference as well.
